One-to-One | Mentor Mothers

Director: Jaime Ackroyd
Prod.: Chrome Productions

On a trip to South Africa early 2018 I shot and directed a short documentary for a charity called One-to-One with the amazing help of my translater and friend Khululwa and Chrome Productions.

This charity essentially enables women from the local community to go door to door in their communities and help other people in need, generally this tends to be HIV as 26% of women in the Eastern Cape are HIV positive. The beauty of this charity is that the charity enables the women from the local communities to improve the conditions they are in, it is empowering the women from the community to deal with the issues of the community and it was so obvious to me how well it was working.

It was incredibly moving to see what impact these people were having with very little resources at their fingertips, 3 out of 9 mothers we interviewed said they would be dead if it wasn’t for the help of their Mentor’s and for the first time since One-to-One’s involvement not one child in their care has been born with HIV. The film was made to be shown at a fundraising event last night and I’m incredibly proud to say that with the help of the film the charity raised almost double what they hoped they could raise.
